This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Reading is a fundamental element of our society. Reading develops the mind, helps us discover new things, and develops our imagination. Most importantly, reading is vital to be successful in all areas of our lives.
The students in our class come from a rural setting.
Our school houses K thru 5th grade. There are 4 Kindergarten classes. We have 25 students in our class. Most of the students receive free lunch. Most of the students have not attended any type of preschool program and are using a computer for the first time. It is so exciting seeing their faces light up when they are successful for the first time.
My Project
Students will use these Accelerated Reader books to choose the one they want to read, both in class and at home. Once they have read the book they will go to the computer and take an AR (Accelerated Reader) quiz. They will then print their top report for a reward. Once I have looked at their report, it goes in their folder to go home so their parents can see how they did comprehending what they have read.
Reading aids students in their education as well as creativity and imagination.
Comprehension integrates all the other aspects of reading. Word recognition, vocabulary, and fluency are very important parts of reading and comprehension. By purchasing these books, my students will find many more books to peak their interest and make them want to read more, which will help them improve all their reading skills.
