Tobacco Hornworms Mesmerize Students w/ their Metamorphosis
My students need tobacco hornworm caterpillars in order to learn about the life cycle of this amazing creature! Students will be fully engaged using live hornworms!
My students are always more interested and engaged when they experience science in a hands-on way! What better way to bring science to life than to use live specimens in science! We will be able to raise tobacco hornworm larvae to their adult stage using these materials!
My classroom is a colorful place of diverse learners.
I currently have 4th and 5th graders in my classroom. I teach in a STEM school, so we incorporate science into pretty much everything we do and the kids love it. By integrating science into the other content areas, my students are always engaged and interested in what we are learning. Our school is in a large, urban district so funds are hard to come by, which is why we need your support for our project.
My Project
My students will be able to actually watch the growth and development of the tobacco hornworm larvae. They will be responsible for researching, caring for, and journaling the development of the larvae through the different stages of the hornworm metamorphosis. Students will design a habitat for the larvae, pupa, and adult hornworms based on their research.
This project will bring learning to life in my classroom.
Students will really understand life cycles through this project. Giving them an opportunity to get hands-on with these amazing insects will be such an unforgettable experience for my classroom!
