This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited to engage with their new technology/Google Chromebooks. My classroom consists of 27 students with high potential, on free lunch and the school is a Title 1 school.
Several students in my class are provided backpack food on the weekend, and our school partners with the neighboring University which provides pantry food items for attending students and families in need.
Despite the challenges many of them face at home and school, they are still eager to learn an succeed.
My Project
My students were recently provided individual Google Chromebooks via a district awarded technology grant to enhance classroom learning. They all really enjoy using the new technology on sites like ABCya.com, Readingeggs.com and IXL.com. I've seen a tremendous amount of growth in their reading comprehension and grasping of math skills as a result. These programs provide personalized learning opportunities for each student; ensuring they learn at their own pace while achieving classroom goals.
Having personal headphones would allow my students the ability to utilize their Chromebooks to its full potential; maximizing their learning experiences and minimizing disturbance to their classroom friends.
