Mrs. G. from Darien IL is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need $225 to attend the 2nd day of a two-day Guided Math Conference. There are over 21 strategy-packed conference sessions to choose from!

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." For the past 19 years of teaching, I have constantly tried to find ways to spark my students' learning.
This year, I am teaching in a 3rd grade co-taught classroom with 25 mixed-ability learners.
Several students have individualized educational plans and receive additional services such as occupational/physical therapy, social work, mentoring, and speech therapy. Many others benefit from having 2 full-time teachers in the classroom because of their low academic performance. I have one student with autism, and several students who have focus and attention issues. Because of the diversity of my learners, it is imperative that I have a variety of tools to meet each of their needs in the classroom.
I believe continued professional development is the best way to expand my teaching repertoire and therefore impact my students' learning in the most meaningful ways.
I am requesting funds to attend a conference on guided math. Guided Math is a proven instructional strategy that allows teachers to support each child's individual development of math proficiency.
Guided Math supports creating flexible small groups that allow students to work in their zone of proximal development so they can learn exactly what they need to know at their instructional level.
This two-day conference will provide me with invaluable information that I will be able to implement immediately in order to improve my craft.
My students will benefit because differentiated instruction is an essential classroom practice that allows all students equal opportunities to achieve. By attending this conference, I will gain meaningful strategies that I can use to strengthen my math instruction and greatly increase my students' mathematical understanding and achievement.
