Have you ever been overstimulated? Have you ever just wanted something to help you calm your body? My students have Autism and are non-verbal. They are unable to tell me and the other staff what they need so they seek sensory input such as grabbing, throwing, hitting, biting and mouthing objects.
My students are all unique, but the one thing they have in common is love.
They all want to show love and to be loved. They are ages Pre-K to 2nd in two separate special education classroom in the public school system. Each of my students has an Individualized Education Plan and have behavioral and occupational therapy support services.
My Project
These materials will help my students with their ability to regulate their body's throughout the school day. Three of my students are oral motor seekers and place everything and anything in their mouths. They are currently using these chewy tubes; however they will not last the whole school year and will need to be replaced. So I am asking for your help in making sure my students have the tools they need when they need it. The swing will assist my students in their sensory diets throughout the school days. Swings especially the cuddle swing have been shown to assist with helping students with autism calm down, pay more attention, and decrease aggressive behaviors. We have the hardware for the swing in the ceiling and the safety ropes and mats, but NO SWING.
Please help my students decrease their need to mouth inedible objects and help them to calm and organize their bodies by providing them with the deep touch pressure and vestibular stimulation they desperately need!
