The ten and eleven year old children I teach during the school day are amazing, inspiring, and fun. We work hard to make learning in our classroom productive and enjoyable despite the grueling schedule. It is my ever evolving goal to give everything I can to my students to help provide the most nourishing learning environment as I possibly can.
I want my kids to be comfortable enough in our classroom to share their growth mindsets to become the best people they can be.
This is achieved through various avenues including decor, physical comfort, lighting, and most importantly a safe community of acceptance and care. With our schedule, my kids are itching for activity by the end of the day. They need to have the freedom to move around and feel comfortable in our classroom to help alleviate some of that throughout the day.
My Project
I want to create a classroom with flexible seating to give my students the freedom of movement while allowing them to focus on their own learning. This means we need to provide seating choices which allow for movement and comfort in our classroom of hard surfaces.
By providing some Saddle Seat Counter Stools as taller sitting options, my students will remain focused learning because they will be able to sit OR stand at the taller desks without distracting others.
Adults don't typically choose to sit for 6 hours a day in hard, uncomfortable, plastic, and metal chairs so why would we do that to our kids? Let's give them some choices to allow them to be free of discomfort so their brains are able to be sponges for everything they are excited to learn!
