My school is a public charter school providing students (learners) in grades 6-8 a hands-on STEAM, aerospace-focused and project-based curriculum. We are the first school in the nation to be located right at an airport in Englewood, Colorado. Our learners come from all over the Denver area, from Franktown to Aurora to Arvada and beyond. This diversity brings different perspectives to our classrooms. Some of our learners have been homeschooled and some are just looking for a different type of school and have found their home at CSA!
Our learners are creative thinkers and very excited about learning!
Our curriculum focuses on core academic competencies, in addition to key focus areas that will prepare learners for promising careers in aerospace and technology. I will be team teaching with the science teacher to provide this PE elective in addition to teaching Exploratory/STEAM.
My Project
Additional items are needed while teaching remotely over Zoom due to COVID-19. Remote learning has been tricky for everyone. I am used to walking around checking in with students and barely sit when at school. Now with learners on Zoom, I spend more time with them over the screen in one place. Planning for lessons is 100% done on a computer now that learners are remote and everything needs to be assigned on a computer.
This chair will be used for a reward for students to sit in once in the classroom for students to have the special chair to work in.
When hybrid, my classroom helper answering questions to the learners over Zoom will be able to use this chair as they collaborate with another learner over Zoom. If I am able to sit longer in an ergonomic chair during the Zoom remote lessons, I can increase the time I plan for student lessons and give feedback to learners. This will be used in the classroom daily.
I want to be able to give feedback to learners outside of the time we are on Zoom together; all that means sitting at a desk much longer than I have been used to. The charger will be to keep an iPad charged during remote learning so I can use the iPad as an additional monitor for Zoom lessons and increase student learning time. Having the chat box and participant list, as well as sharing my slides during Zoom is difficult if only using one screen. The blue screen will allow less glare and fewer headaches with extra time on the computer due to COVID-19.
Thanks for helping remote learning go smoother for everyone!
More teacher screen time = more student learning time!
