Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten in a Title I school where all the students receive free breakfasts and lunches. My students are faced with challenging and untypical experiences outside the classroom. Rather than focus on what they are not receiving outside I am providing my students with meaningful, positive, fun learning experiences.
"Look at what I did" These are words I hear every day from my Kindergarten students who are writing letters for the first time.
My students are positive and excited to learn despite the negativity outside. My students are thriving with developmentally appropriate learning adventures they are able to have, for in my classroom they are children who love to play and love to learn as they play.
My Project
My kindergarten students are excited to share what they are learning, the work they have completed and projects they have made. At home they are always being told to be quiet and go play. I want my classroom to be an open space where they can take charge of their learning.
By giving them the opportunity to use a "grown up" chair and an adjustable laptop desk hooked to our document camera to show on our smart board will deepen their knowledge of the skill and of their peers.
It also gives my dual language students another way to understand the skill in child friendly language. It will also begin the foundation blocks for leadership and confidence skills.
