My students are awesome. They come from a diverse set of backgrounds and situations but they are good kids. We have a few military families, some upper-middle-class families, single parent families, large families, etc. I have classes full of athletic students, motivated students, bookworms, struggling readers, non-native speakers, etc. We have nice neighborhoods surrounding us, rural communities, strip malls, access to a major city with a major university, and public housing in our district. I like to think we are a typical American middle school with typical American teenagers.
We have 80-85 students in our program every year. We currently have 60 copies of the classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Each year I have 20-25 students that must either purchase a copy of the novel or find one at a local library.
With just 20 more copies of To Kill a Mockingbird I will have enough in our class library to check out a copy to each student; every year!
This is a classic novel whose themes are as relevant today as they were in 1962. Each year I teach this novel and my students fall in love with it and Boo Radley. Help spread the love of literature and donate today.
