My students come from a high poverty background. I teach special education. That is two strikes against my students. I like to give them chances to do things they would not normally be able to do.
My kids are AWESOME!
They love to learn! They love to be introduced to new things, new technology, and new ideas. They embrace the new and add it to the old to create the things they need to be successful. I have a great bunch of students this year.
Our school is a huge technology school. We have all kinds of things for the students to use, but we do not have printers. We do not have access to printers for students to print the items that they need to conduct research or show progress towards their Accelerated Reader goals. We are requesting two printers for our classroom so that we can utilize the technology that we have for us to use and move up to the next level of learning.
My Project
We will use the printers for our research projects, our AR goals, and for our reading fair projects. We will be able to print out our reports so that we can see exactly what information we need to put into our research. This way, we can utilize the Chromebooks that we have available as well as the laptops and the iPads. If we had two printers in our classroom, we would be able to print our way through any challenge we come to!
Printing information for special education students is very important. They need to see it as well as touch it. Being able to read it on a screen or out of a book is not enough for them. They need to be able to write on it, highlight it, and revise the information in their own way so that they can embrace it. They need to be able to see as well as touch it so that they can grasp the information that they need to be successful.

It will help them to be able to see the information as well as touch it and write on it. It will help me, as a teacher, to print things out as soon as I need them if someone doesn't understand something. If we are doing a lesson and someone is confused, I can find something quickly and help them instead of having to wait and send it to the printer downstairs.
