This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a second grade special education classroom in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our classroom often becomes quite hectic due to the variety of behaviors we are managing and the ability levels we work with. Having clear visuals is often a necessity in order for the majority to understand assignments and expectations.

These tools like will help my students reach their full potential by providing them clear visuals and manipulatives that can be used to support our daily lessons.

For example, my students love writing with dry erase markers making the various "write and wipe" boards perfect tools to keep them engaged in lessons. Other tools, like the calendar, timer, and rug, are going to help our classroom run smoother by creating clear visual expectations throughout the day (where they should be seated, how long they are expected to work on a task, etc.).

Currently, tools like hundreds charts and place value charts are used daily in my classroom, but, since they are mostly printed on paper, they are being shared and get lost easily. The boards include place value and hundreds charts giving the students the opportunity to work out the problem on their own. Each of these tools will ultimately help me provide equal opportunities for each of my students to access the information in ways that make the most sense to them.
