Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, talented, and deserving young ladies and gentlemen. Approximately 60% of my students are English learners. Spanish, Vietnamese and Khmer are the most common languages spoken at home. Approximately 91% of my students are eligible for free and reduced-price meals.
My school strives to prepare every student for success and thus aims to prepare every student for college or career.
To get there, we are implementing college- and career-ready standards, developing and rolling out high-quality, standards-aligned curricular resources, and broadening our technology use.
My Project
I am on the curriculum design team for my district and I would love to be able to expand my knowledge of NGSS and how to implement it in the classroom. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) must be fully implemented in all district classrooms by 2019 and I want to make sure that my school does it properly and most effectively. Thus, I would love to be able to have the books listed in this project so that I can expand my knowledge of this new science curriculum.
Since I am our school's department chair and also part of our district's curriculum design team, your donation would not just be helping my classroom and my students, but potentially all the middle school classrooms for our district and thousands of students.
In order to be an effective teacher, you must become a student. I am constantly reviewing my own teaching and trying to find ways to expand my knowledge of the content I teach and the way in which I can teach it. My students deserve the best and thus I must strive to be the best teacher I can be. Unfortunately, professional development books are expensive... your help would be very much appreciated.
