"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it." Harper Lee
This line is one of the most memorable lines from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In today's world, relating to others is a challenge to youth.
My students will be entering high school and taking English I.
This course will introduce them to mature reading and analysis. Also, being that my students are from a small rural community in the south, it is clear that they will relate to the characters in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird and learn lifelong lessons from them. I hope that they learn sacrifice and humanity from Atticus Finch, bravery from Jem, and tenacity from Scout. May they also learn innocence and justice from Tom Robinson and the other characters in this novel.
My Project
This novel will open a new world of learning and analysis to my students, introducing them to characterization, plot structure and foreshadowing. To Kill a Mockingbird will be the first novel my students read in high school, and I hope that if they receive the 40 copies requested, they will learn to love the reading that they will do in high school and that they will carry that love with them past graduation and on into college.
Gaining funding on this project is essential to me because my students will not be able to read this book without your donation.
Please consider that years and years of 9th graders will be able to enjoy this text. If they get these books, hopefully the lessons learned through them will be life changing.
