My students need materials to bring the solar system alive. It is a far out concept to bring into their fingertips!

My Students

Do you know how far apart Earth and Mars are? On average they are 56 Million KM. How do I put that in perspective for an 8th grader? This is my challenge.

I am the teacher of a group of very hand-on, active eighth graders.

These students are not content with only being told, they need to see it, work with it, see models of the span and truly wrap what they see into the system. This is an exciting but challenging issue for my group of 120 Wisconsin students. Approximately 40% of my students live in poverty, but this does not stop them for continually wanting to learn more.

My Project

I am requesting inflatable solar system and magnetic solar system to hang in my classroom. This would provide a model where students can see the distance between the planets, the pathways on which they travel and the comparative sizes of the various planets. I am always looking for new ways to deliver the content that my students need. I love taking an idea and making it fit my classroom. I also have the option to take these concepts and fit them for the various learning levels and abilities of all of my students.

By donating to this project, the far out science of space can come into students hands.

The idea of how large everything they are learning is, bringing the idea into their classroom, would be monumental. Thank you, to the Moon and back.
