Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember being told you can be anything you want to be when you grow up? When we are young so many young kids 5,6,7 years old say they want to be an astronaut. Now, think about being in third grade and not knowing what an astronaut does or even is. That is most of my students in my class and in our school. How are we supposed to tell them they can be anything they want to be when they grow up when there are so many cool and interesting jobs that they don't even know about. I want to open their minds to endless opportunities for their future in a fun and exciting way.
I could have a First Generation American who is bilingual Astronaut sitting in my class and all it takes for that spark is exposure, knowledge, and some fun.
I have said in my other projects I am determined to give these students a fun and engaging learning experience. What better way to learn about space and our earth solar system then to be sitting in a blow up spaceship! We will be using our spaceships and supplies to do our work in, project the stars, and even problem solving. Could you imagine if we had a problem when we were out in space? What would happen, how could we fix it, what would, we need? These are all questions to get my students thinking and understanding they CAN be anything they want to be when they grow up. They have Infinity and Beyond!
