Every school year, about 120 anxious 9th graders enter my science classroom all having different expectations. Many of my students have never had a science class before or have just learned science from a textbook. They are eager for hands on learning and memorable experiences.
Science is about building, and doing, and experimenting and my students do not often get this experience.
I would love to create lessons that inspire them to ask questions, to explore, and possibly to even pursue an education or career in STEM.
My Project
LIFT OFF in 3...2...1....My 9th graders will be learning about astronomy and physics this school year in science class. Many of my students have either never had a science class or have only experienced science from an outdated textbook. I would love to inspire a love for science and exploration through hands on learning and experimentation. With this bottle rocket project, my students will design their own bottle rocket and then test it out with the launchers. They will learn about speed, velocity, rocket design, air resistance and more. This exciting hands on lesson will tie in perfectly with what they are learning this year and hopefully give them a great memory of science class.
