My students need chromebooks to allow them to become 21st century learners!
I teach 5th graders at a Title I school in a small town in Texas. About 41% of children in our county live in poverty. For many of them, school is the one constant in their lives. I strive to maintain an organized, student-centered learning environment. I teach reading and language arts.
My students depend on me and each other to help them through their daily lives.
We are a close-knit "family" and are governed by a student-made social contract.
We currently share 60 Chromebooks with approximately 500 students, making the continued use just about impossible to facilitate collaborative learning.
Students today are being trained for jobs that don't exist yet.
In order for them to be successful they need to be familiar with using technology in working in collaboration with other students. Integrating technology in core subjects, as well as, virtual field trips, inclusion classes, and online collaboration will improve student achievement in addition to cost savings through lessened printing and increased electronic data sharing. By providing more efficient access to resources and new ways to approach, share and display material, devices, specifically Chromebooks, can have a very real impact on student outcomes.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
