To Infinity and Beyond! A Journey through Math and Science.
My students need linking cubes, math games, and geometric shapes to use to better their understanding of math concepts. The plant and animal cells are for science skills.
When teaching math and science, I love using math and science centers and games. Children learn in many different ways but having a hands-on and visual approach can be a fun and informative way of retaining and applying their knowledge. Having these supplies will give the students new ways to learn.
I teach math and science to 2 groups of 25 students in 4th grade.
My students like to learn new and fun ways to do math. I want to be able to give them access to learn how and what they can. I have high expectations of my students, they know I do, and they strive to reach their goals! My school is a newer school but some of the students come from low-income families. Therefore sometimes it's hard to have money for the extra supplies and resources. Therefore any extra supplies I can acquire can only benefit the students. In my class we laugh, cry, praise and support each other, make mistakes, we make friends, we have respect, we grow, we have dreams and goals, and we are real. We are a family! And I want to have the best supplies and resources for my family to reach their goals. They have some pretty big dreams in my classes, I want to be able to help them reach each one.
My Project
These math and science materials I have requested, will be used during math centers and/ or during indoor recess when we are unable to go outside. They will use these during lessons, for review, or just for extra help. For instance, I have asked for animal adaptation cards. We have a huge standard leaning about animals, these cards will supply a visual. Also, I have requested many math manipulatives such as: dice, fraction task cards, linking cubes, and geometric blocks. Fractions are a big subject covered in 4th grade, and any extra visual or hands-on material I can find or use, will help the students retain and understand the topic better. I envision, by the end of year testing, these resources and tools will have provided extra visual and hands-on stimulation to help nurture the children's cognitive development. And in the long run, will help them during exams and state testing and apply their knowledge to every day experiences.
Donations will improve my classroom because we do not have the funding to buy some of these resources ourselves.
It will change the students' lives because any extra resources and supplements are proudly appreciated. And my students will be thrilled to have these items available. They are eager to learn. And I love making math and science fun especially on the harder subjects, such as, fractions. Anyway I can inspire students to learn, I want to strive to find a way to accomplish that goal!
