Advanced Placement classes provide college-level studies while still in high school. Physics students are driven, inquisitive and talented. After completion of rigorous classwork and year-end exams, these students are prepared to earn college credit before stepping foot on a college campus. All 23 of my students have expressed a desire to pursue a degree in Physics and this class gives them a head start.
Physics makes all things possible!
Without physics, there would be no light bulbs, digital cameras, cell phones, airplanes, fiber optics, computers or flat screen TVs. We live our comfortable lives because physics was applied to create these creature comforts. If you study physics, you can explore the mysteries of the universe, develop new medical techniques and help solve the world's energy problems and water shortages. These 23 students are destined to do just that and more!
My Project
Interest in our rigorous AP Physics program has surged this year and is gaining even more ground through our FIRST Robotics program. However, this has caused complications with lab implementation.
Students understand and retain complex physics concepts when they have hands-on, inquiry-based instruction.
Photogates allow for accurate, precise timing of events within physics experiments for studying free fall, air track collisions, pendulum periods, the speed of a rolling object and more. We are in need of photogate timers to reduce group sizes down to 2-3 students so they can all contribute to the process in our labs. We are currently at 10 students per group.
