My Students

My students are inquisitive and very bright. Our high school is a mix of small town/rural students. We have a great range of socioeconomic backgrounds, but overall we are considered to be low socioeconomic, with about 30% eligible for free or reduced lunch. I know that I need to provide opportunities for success for many of my students.

Generally, we have very hard working students and have a very high graduation rate.

As a science teacher, I emphasize the importance of hands on activities and hope that the lessons I present will have long term meaning and understanding.

My Project

Earth and Space Science is a required course for our ninth grade students. Students in 9th grade need to SEE things and EXPERIENCE them. Lecturing is great but letting the students experiment helps them understand and retain what they learn. I attempt to offer as many hands-on experiences as possible.

These globes will give my students opportunities to measure temperature variations when the globes are turned to varying angles allowing them to better understand seasonal temperature changes.

The globes must be the same size to properly investigate the changes. They are beautiful globes as well and will offer opportunities to enhance other units of study as well.
