Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my Pre-AP classroom consists of reading, interacting, and LEARNING! Most of my students have never been exposed to classic American literature, and I want to make sure that they have this experience before they leave middle school.
Most of my students come from the inner-city and are minorities.
Many of them speak English as a second language. However, given what some would see as "limitations", my students excel in their classwork and assessments. They are leaders among their grade level peers, as they are in my advanced (Pre-AP) class. They are well-behaved, appreciative, and kind-hearted children.
My Project
My students will use the novel to gain their first American literature (and novel) experience. The themes that are explored in "To Kill a Mockingbird": trust, appreciation, and respect are themes that my students encounter in everyday life. They will be able to use this novel to explore these themes, while also gaining an appreciation for literature.
My project will make a difference because it will allow my students to gain an appreciation for classic American literature at the middle school level!
How cool is that? My students will leave my classroom with their first taste of literature all because of you!
