Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach art at a low income but highly creative inner-city charter school. I teach seventh through twelfth grades.

Oklahoma has a rich Native American history. Although Oklahoma students learn about the history of Native Americans, they do not have the opportunities to learn about the aesthetics and processes of Native American art.

I am asking for one beading loom for each of my students. Along with the loom I am also asking for beads for the students to create jewelry that will be inspired by Native American designs. Along with learning how to create jewelry, the students will learn about the different tribes of Oklahoma and the meanings of the icons in Native American art.

The generosity that you have shown by giving to this project will make it possible for my students to have a greater understanding of Native American art, history, and cultural presence that they are surrounded by.
