We need a set of bullhorns so that student voices can be heard!

My students are awesome. They are funny, imaginative, engaged, curious, self-starters, supportive, trustworthy, cooperative, and insightful young people. I can walk out of my room for a moment and trust that they will continue working. What makes my students amazing is that for many of them, they are reaching for higher goals than anyone else in their family could ever have dreamed of. The IB program at our school provides students greater challenges in hopes of creating students that have an inquiring mindset and a more open minded perspective toward the world around them.
I recently expressed to students that I am interested in moving toward more choice in their assignments. Students have requested these materials for a choice-based textile mixed media project. The plan is for students to create wearable artworks that will be transformative and empowering. Students have asked me to start sourcing a variety of textile materials and have also expressed a desire to see more of their artwork in another display case in our school.
As we prepare to deal with the matter of school shootings for upcoming demonstrations, students need to be able to share their ideas and have other students pay attention to them. At the most recent demonstration, students prepared speeches and tried to speak with their peers, but the speeches were too quiet. We need a way to spread student ideas, and a bullhorn is the right tool for this job.
We need to be leaders in our school and we need to encourage other students to consider the possible outcomes of current legislation. Students need to be able to communicate in a large group setting, and a bullhorn will allow us to spread out the message and have other students pay attention.
As the students who are developing the plan for the upcoming demonstrations, we are showing our student body that their voice matters. Students may feel as though their ideas are unimportant and we need to be able to show others that not only does their voice matter, but their safety matters as well. We need these bullhorns to be effective leaders in our school.
Our school needs to grow a sense of pride and self-respect and in order to do this, we need to show our student body that students are able to rise to the occasion and speak out for safety in our schools. We need to provide a message of positivity and promote comradery to turn around negative behaviors that could lead to violence in our halls and classrooms.
