My students come from broken homes and rough family lives. English is their second language and being a title I school the majority of the attention they receive is at school. They walk in each day looking for a safe and caring environment so that they can do their best to learn. With the right classroom environment, anything is possible for them.
Every teacher faces the challenge of getting students to concentrate and work in the classroom.
While some students enthusiastically walk into a classroom each day, others need motivation and inspiration to focus on school. Teachers in Title 1 schools encounter students facing life struggles many of us cannot even imagine. Encouraging these students to focus at school can be difficult, but it is necessary to overcome the challenge in order for students to academically achieve.
My Project
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Title I students don't typically get these options outside of school. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Through this project, my students will be able to come into our classroom and find a spot that suits them and their individual learning styles. It has been proven that traditional desks aren't always the best option during the school day. This project provides various flexible seating options which will allow my students to do feel more comfortable and open to learning.
