This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As educators, more often than not, we are expected to provide high-quality learning opportunities in our classrooms despite having insufficient materials to do so.
As a new teacher, it is particularly difficult to provide adequate materials for students.
My scholars are brilliant and they deserve high-quality resources and materials that are similar to their higher-income peers. This gap should not determine a difference in their educational experience.
The community of learners in which I teach is vibrant, tight-knit, joyful, and eager to learn each and every day. My students are dreamers. They dig deep into their learning, demonstrate curiosity through questioning, and display a sense of energy that is contagious. My students deserve nothing less than amazing. They are the future!
My Project
This year has been hard for many. It has been especially hard for students. Minneapolis Public Schools has been distance learning since March. Although I believe we need to keep each other safe by staying home, I understand the burden this places on my families' shoulders.
Help me gift my students a holiday goodie bag of sensory objects and art materials to bring them some joy this winter!
Students are already showing signs of declining mental health and we only just finished the first quarter. As Minnesotans, our mental health takes a dip during the winter months, then on top of that, the coronavirus is present. My students can be occupied and have a small pocket of joy with opportunities to paint, decorate, and cope with sensory tools such as glitter balls and slime.
