My students see education as the key to their future. I teach at a Title I high school in Colorado. At this point in their lives, most of my students have realized that they want something better for their lives. This not only includes getting good grades but exposing themselves to extracurricular activities like sports, drama, student government, and a variety of clubs.
As a math teacher, I do all I can to make sure that my students are fully engaged in their work.
One of the main ways to do that is through technology. I try to integrate technology to mirror our changing society. In order for my students to succeed in college or their future career, they must be technologically literate.
My Project
Technological fluency is an important skill as professions continue to change. Companies are asking students to not only be able to use technology but also troubleshoot, understand the resources available, and use it to increase efficiency.
As part of an IB Diploma Program, my students are required to use a graphing calculator quickly and efficiently.
We will be using these calculators every day for activities, creating programs, and learning basic coding skills. Due to the financial struggles in my school's neighborhood, my students are not able to purchase $150 calculators, yet they deserve the same opportunities as other schools. These graphing calculators will be with my students every day increasing their understanding of applied mathematics.
