Have you ever had your hand become so tired from writing that you just have to stop and take a break? As adults, we have the luxury of walking away from an activity but in junior high school classroom instruction continues on regardless.
I am a special education teacher in a Southern California junior high school.
My students have what are commonly referred to as "invisible" disabilities. Every day activities such as writing are a struggle due to autism, ADHD, and sensory feedback disabilities. Our school is in the public sector and you would never know just by looking at my students that they struggle with a simple day to day task such as writing.
My Project
Something as simple as a pencil grip or a fatter pencil can make all the difference for a student who struggles with autism, ADHD, or sensory feedback disabilities. It is very common for students with these types of disabilities/differences to have their hands become fatigued easily.
Donating to this project will allow my students the opportunity to remain engaged in instruction for longer periods of time.
Learning is hard enough for my students, then compound that with the inability to physically hold a pencil for an extended period of time. This is one of the most simplistic types of technology that I can give my students to improve the quality of their lives while they are in my care.
