Mrs. R. from Philadelphia PA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Ozobot Bit starter kits to begin learning about robots and programming concepts through hands-on exploration.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are in the midst of many personal and academic transitions. I teach at a Title I public school in the School District of Philadelphia. It is a diverse school, compared to others in the city and my student population includes both English Language Learners and students with special needs.
In addition to the "regular" challenges that face 7th graders (middle school is tough), my students face poverty, sometimes stressful living situations, and a school system that is chronically underfunded and under-resourced.
Despite this, my students are ready to learn and achieve great things, if provided the challenges and opportunities they so deserve.
Ozobot Bits are tiny robots that follow instructions using codes drawn or created on paper or on screens.
A set of four Bits would get us started with exploring robots and simple programming concepts through hands-on experimentation and exploration.
Students would be able to develop different activities and solve different challenges by programming paths and movements for these robots.
While these will be used at first for after-school and extracurricular programming, they would start a collection that we would eventually be able to integrate into our science and technology classes as well. They would also be the introduction to robotics and programming that would guide students to later experiences with building robots from components and/or with other types of programming.
