Our room is a learning community made up of over 120 inquisitive, ambitious, eager and energized young scholars! They range from second through fifth grade. Every student in the program has been identified as being in extreme need of alternative instructional methods. As such, we go to second graders at their home schools, and 3-5th graders come from all over the district to receive our weekly challenge and enrichment program. Each student is a unique individual with his or her own strengths and challenges. I strive to create innovative learning opportunities that challenge them academically, and inspire them to reach their high potential.
We emphasize collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking in our classroom, with the understanding that children learn best when they are engaged through playful experiences.
Our scholars love to explore concepts through simulations and hands-on experiences.
Ozobots will provide my students with a hands-on coding experience different than what they experience in online environments. Students will notice that different "messages" can be sent through combining different codes on paper. Much like algebra, students will begin to create "if-then" scenarios in their heads, thinking ahead to create desired outcomes.
Ozobots are an exciting and educational introduction to the world of coding!
Students will have the opportunity to build both algebra and basic coding skills in small groups in the classroom. These will be used as a STEM rotation during STEM and math enrichment units for our students!
