Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day, my students face challenges, before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households, where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters.
Despite these challenges, my students come to school each day, and I do my best to provide an emotionally supportive environment to foster academic success.
Having a subscription to TIME for Kids magazine will provide my students access to current events in a grade friendly format.
My Project
My students receive very little information about what goes on in the world outside of their communities. The information that the few who do watch the news are getting is aimed at an adult audience and often contains disturbing issues. We are requesting a subscription to TIME for Kids which tailors current events to make news age appropriate.
Having subscriptions to TIME for Kids would allow for my students to read articles on their reading levels and be in the know of current events.
I would be able to read the articles in the magazines with them in small groups and have meaningful discussions about the world outside of their communities.
