My students live in a high poverty (80%+students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch) area.
Many students never get positive health/PE information outside of my classroom and many get no exercise outside of our PE time.
They love learning about topics that pertain so specifically to them and their lives. Many students push themselves to reach new personal records on their different physical fitness tests. (sit ups, push ups, running scores, sit and reach, etc.).
My students love learning about subjects that before health class, were considered too taboo to be discussed and questioned.
My Project
Our students are hesitant to participate in physical exercise at times. By using timers for short timed workouts that keep them moving on to the next exercise, they are constantly being pushed to work hard and don't realize the amount of work they are putting into the total workout!
Students want to push themselves to beat personal best scores rather than always trying to beat the best in the class.
Using these workout clocks, students will be able to do circuit training workouts in our work out room above the locker room.
Using the large clock students can work on their cardio workouts outside on the track and/or on the outdoor runs through the park next door.
Using the workout clock in the gym, students can time their indoor runs (when the weather is bad) and do different timed team/group games and timed workouts with different group exercises.
