Do you remember walking into a class and being told what you have to read and wanting to cry? My high school students are stuck in a reading class and want to read interesting books and have reading chairs. These chairs will help me give them the joy of reading.
Many of my students are on lower reading levels, and many have never finished a book.
Many are not able to find high interest books in school and, therefore, don't read. My students want so much to have books in our classroom that would interest them. There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when you finish your first book.
My Project
My students read every day in their reading class as part of their grade. The students love the reading rockers. Last year, we had to get rid of two chairs because they were broken. This year, when we go back, it's important that I have these chairs for the kids. With these new chairs, we will be all set for the new year. Our reading group will have new chairs. Each day my students have to read for 30 min in class. In the reading corner, we only have desk chairs that are hard and uncomfortable. They love the reading rockers and even fight over who will get to sit in them. Last year, we had to throw a few away so I am looking to replace them.
