Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am honored to teach a wonderful population of students. A majority of the students are English Language Learners (ELL), and my school serves as a host school for refugees coming from various places.
I look forward to every day with my students, embracing the wonderful differences and experiences they each bring.
I want my students to know they are valued, loved, and safe when they come into the classroom. I strive to model and teach growth mindset so each kiddo knows that their potential is limitless.
My Project
Several of my students are responsible for getting themselves up and ready for school each day. Attendance is essential to academic achievement. Constant absences and tardies lead to holes in their learning, which impact their understanding of the vital concepts that are taught each day. In November 2018, only 6 of my 30 students had perfect attendance.
My students need the tools to take charge of their own learning and their attendance.
Almost every student that has been chronically absent or tardy has reported that they woke up late. By providing my students with these battery operated alarm clocks, they will be able to wake up on time and get themselves to school. My hope is that an alarm clock will be the item that helps my students attend school regularly.
