My Students

Someone asked me recently why I chose to teach 4th grade. The answer is simple, fourth grade is the year that little kids become big kids. They are full of wonder as they begin to look beyond themselves to the state of their community and the world. They are developing a sense of independence and self yet, they are still full giggles and silliness.

In fourth grade, academic rigor steps up.

4th graders are asked to annotate while reading complex pieces of text as well as collaborate with peers to share their insight into topics such as author's point of view, theme, and connections that they make between other texts and/or real-world experiences. In math, 4th graders are required to quickly and accurately recall the fundamental math functions that they have been taught in grades K-3 to solve more advanced equations.

My Project

With the risks associated with Covid-19, I am trying to plan for my students to have individual sketchbooks to use at home.

My students need art resources to develop their creative abilities!

Creative thinkers are going to be the designers, the problem-solvers, and the innovators of the future!

When the pandemic hit our school, I quickly learned that many of my students had little to no art supplies available at home. By providing each student with a sketchbook, they will have a central place to practice drawing prompts, develop their ideas, and build a record of their growth as an artist. Since my students can no longer share supplies, your donation will go a long way to support arts education.
