This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our alternative school is for students who are failing at their traditional high schools. All of our students grapple with poverty. They come into school the first week wary and mistrusting, but they quickly blossom when they realize that they are always treated with respect and care.

Our school has had only four fights in 3+ years---An impressive fact considering that many of our students had been suspended repeatedly for fighting in their other schools.

And almost all of them graduate!

My Project

The Spirograph would be used in the room where students go to unwind, recharge or to decompress if they're upset. One of their favorite things is to do artwork and they will love this Spirograph. When students come into my room all upset about things that they're experiencing, they sit down and do some artwork and the tension just melts away.

"I've never gotten a certificate before---I want to laminate it to put it on my grandma's refrigerator!" When we hear our students say things like that, we want to make sure we can preserve their award certificates.

We give out LOTS of award certificates for behavior and academics, and need a laminator to preserve them for students who want that. We also need to laminate our restroom passes, hall passes, etc.
