This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school that offers free breakfast and lunch to all children. Our third grade scholars live in a high poverty neighborhood. Our community is located in an inner-city area. About 85% of our students identify as African American, 5% Latino, 2% White, 1% Asian, and 9% multi-racial.
Labels and test scores do an injustice to our scholars and teachers.
My scholars and I refuse to accept failure. If you could see our children, you would understand that they are full of potential and that they are future leaders and innovators. Our students are perseverant, motivated, enthusiastic, and driven to succeed. We will bridge the poverty gap, and they will achieve!
My Project
One of the skills that third graders need to master is telling time with an analog clock. However, time is standing still in our classroom - literally! Our classroom clock has been stuck at 2:00 for the past two months.
We need a classroom clock to help us master telling time.
We also need liquid chalk to post objectives on our blackboard so we can clearly see what we are learning each day. Our classroom is lit by distracting fluorescent lighting that gives some of us headaches. The reading lamps would be a calming alternative. We would use the speech bubbles and letters as part of bulletin board displays that showcase the children's work. Please help to improve our scholar's learning experience!
