Help me give my students bowling pin sets to broaden their PE experience, a large readable time clock for jogging, as well as a large wedge mat to add to our obstacle course unit.
I am a P.E. Specialist at a school with promising outcomes of growth in many areas. Our students are busily engaged in the Title I and Turn Around programs. This means that a majority of our students come from diverse, low income, single and two parent homes. It is just the right mix. We have student leaders who set a great example to others who need a little nudge and encouragement. Together they make our school a great place to be, work, and learn.
We are an older school with not the best amenities but I have always referred to us as a “Diamond in the Rough”.
Our students might not have the "best" of everything materialistically but our school and all those inside make for the "best" education possible.
P.E. is another place in our school for students to try and learn new things. A place where our kids might excel other than in the classroom. It has been noted that movement is a key in doing well academically. Our test scores improved this past year and we're celebrating! I want to continue to do my part by providing our kids with the best P.E. program I can offer.
My Project
Receiving a wall timer can and will be used daily in our gym. Not only can it help in time management during class but it will be used every day to help the students pace themselves while they jog. The students try to get as many laps as they can in 5 minutes. The last 30 seconds of their jog, they bust out and run. It's fun to watch.
In my Physical Education classes, I work hard to provide my students with as many different activities as I can.
When we did a bowling unit last year, I had some students who had never bowled before. So, it's important to me to provide activities that kids might not have tried. It is my goal that my students will find something they enjoy doing to help keep them active throughout their childhood.
I would love to add a wedge mat to our obstacle course unit. The kids get so excited when we have an obstacle course set up for the week. I try to provide activities that push their bodies in ways they might not have experienced. Adding a wedge mat will help do that. The kids leave P.E. tired and sweaty....they love it!
