This year has been a very challenging year for our 6th grade students and staff. On the 3rd day of classes this school year we found out that one of our 6th graders had taken his own life. He was involved in an online dare game called "The Blue Whale Challenge." Needless to say, the whole school has been shaken by the experience. The fallout from the situation has been tremendous. Since the incident we have discovered that several of our students were involved in the game and our school has taken definitive steps to get all of the students and family members the help that they so desperately need.
Our administration made mention of the fact that about 75 percent of this particular class are living with grandparents or foster parents or friends.
As you can imagine, they are a very needy group of special children, hungry for attention and connection. They love videos, reading materials and computers.
Our state is at the bottom of the list of states for school funding. That is why I need your help. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for considering this teacher's classroom.
My Project
The high interest science reading, that the Time Magazine for Kids will provide, will greatly enhance my students' understanding of science concepts. The magazine articles are closely tied to STEM and our 6th grade science objectives.
The magazine will also provide the needed high interest reading for helping our students reach their potential to do well on their standardized reading tests.
One of the most important things that the magazine will provide is a personal copy of the magazine for each of my students, who have so little to call their own. Thank you for helping this teacher help her students!
