Time for Planning and Prepping, not Packing and Unpacking
Help me give my students my undivided attention by allowing me to spend my time planning and prepping for their instruction instead of packing and unpacking my classroom supplies each summer due to yearly janitorial cleaning needs.
My students are enthusiastic. They are new to reading but eager to learn how to improve their reading abilities.
They learn best thru hands-on active doing.
They are social, talkative, and enjoy interacting with each other during their learning processes.
They learn fastest when activities are presented with an engagement component, whether it be as a small group game, partner work, or a group share out at the end.
They consume learning and need to constantly have new opportunities to continue growing as learners.
My Project
Each year, I spend precious time packing and unpacking my classroom materials in order to have the physical space ready for the janitorial crew to remove every piece of furniture in order to annually mop and wax the floor. Although I am happy to volunteer my time working to provide my students with the best school year possible; the current situation is not benefiting my students academically, when I spend two full weeks before school starts unpacking instead of getting materials and activities ready for them.
This project will provide my classroom with high-quality mobile shelves that will not need to be emptied for summer removal.
I will replace shelves that I had purchased from Craigslist that needed to be emptied for summer cleaning. I will no longer need to box up my materials. These new shelves will fold closed to protect my materials. These new shelves are also on wheels to provide easy moving for the janitors. No more boxes of heavy books! No more back aches! No more returning from summer to find my shelves broken because they did not survive the moving in and out of the room! My hope is to spend the time I donate from my summer to make a positive academic impact on my students.
