My students need math and money games to help them learn to accurately count, add and subtract money. They need the table top easel to allow my students to use our magnetic money manipulatives.
I teach 14 amazing second graders! My students are kind, loving and adventuresome. My students come to school daily to learn and grow. This is a very diverse group of students who have faced many challenges in their short lives. In our rural area, financial hardship is real.
Don't let life's circumstances fool you, my students are bright and eager and able to learn!
I want my students to be able to forget their troubles and enjoy learning and exploring. They are ready to explore the world around them, even though their world may be different than other students from more affluent neighborhoods.
These children are our future, and I don't want their circumstances and our rural school's declining budget to define who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing in life.
My Project
My students need the items that I am requesting to become better mathematicians who are fluent in the addition and subtraction of numbers and money! Knowing the value of different coins and dollar bills is a lifeskill that my students will use for the rest of their lives! I have seen students that have no idea what the difference between nickles and quarters is. These items will help me teach them that.
The table top magnetic easel will be the focal point of my morning meetings where we will use our magnetic money daily to learn the value of money and how to make change.
My students will use the pocket chart to have a visual about how many dimes make a dollar, or how many ways they can make a dollar. During center time they will use the games as an engaging way to practice their new skills. I am so excited about the CashBash electronic flash card! My students will love using that during independent practice time. My hope is that after using these items, my students will have learned skills that will help them for the rest of their lives.
