I am a kindergarten teacher and I have had Time for Kids in the classroom before and they loved it. I called it their own special newspaper just for them. Friday is newspaper day. We take the time to go through the issue and do corresponding activities with the magazine across the curriculum. The challenge as a teacher that I feel is the budget cuts. We have to use every possible idea in order to find hands-on activities to get the students involved in learning. I think one of the most important issues children should face is current issues that are happening in the world that affect them. Things that happen will affect them the rest of their lives. Most of the children do not get exposure to newspapers, magazines, or books. Reading is a very integral part of learning. I want to put a magazine in every child's hand to read and understand what is happening in the world. It would coincide with our social studies curriculum. My goal is provide each child in my classroom with the magazine TIME for KIDS. In my opinion it is a great start to get the children involved in reading about current issues. It will serve with the reading and social studies objectives. I want each child to gain knowledge no matter what background they come from. I want them to know gaining knowledge is the greatest gift.
