Time For Kids To Learn About The World

My students need 36 subscriptions to Time for Kids.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How many newspapers and magazines do you get at home? Two? Three? Not so for my fourth graders. Coming from working class homes, most of their families can't afford to subscribe to newspapers or magazines.

I teach in a working class and immigrant neighborhood.

Most of my students are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.

My Project

I want my kids to have the experience of sitting down and enjoying a magazine written just for them. The answer: Time for Kids! With a subscription to Time for Kids, my students will get hooked on the news and have fun in the process. Last year, my kids were lucky enough to have a subscription for the whole year. They learned about current events like the earthquake in Haiti, the Winter Olympics in Canada, and the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Each issue comes with additional activities that focus on basic skills like reading comprehension and using maps. Then they can take their Time for Kids newspapers home and share it with their families.

My fourth graders are inquisitive and want to learn about the world.

With your generous donation, every week in my classroom will be Time for the news, Time to read, and Time for Kids. My students and I thank you!
