This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 120 5th and 6th grade bilingual students. They are full of life and come in ready to learn!! All of my students receive free lunch. Their families struggle financially and asking them to pay extra for a non-fiction read (Time For Kids) would be out of the question. My students want to learn and are excited about learning! We are an inner city school, with funding issues and work daily to give our students the best we can. It is a challenge but exciting!

My Project

My students need exposure to nonfiction reading materials. Having this resource will help my students have knowledge of what is happening in the world around them, not only their neighborhood. Since they are tested three times a year on NWEA and a lot of NWEA is non-fiction it will help their scores and in turn they will eventually be able to get in a better high school and college.

Nonfiction reading is reading that drives instruction and learning!

Time for Kids incorporates reading strategies and activities that my students need in middle school and for life experiences in the world.
