My students need 22 subscriptions each to Weekly Reader w/a Science Spin and Time for Kids w/Around the World magazines to keep them curious about real-world topics and scientific news.
Our military students already know a lot about the world, they know their parents are sacrificing time at home to make the world a better place. Time for Kids and Weekly Reader bring the world into the classroom. Students learn so much about real world topics and themes that will keep them reading.
My Title 1 school is located in a wonderful city in NC that serves one of the largest military bases in the country.
We reach several hundred children with military connected families, as well as students with military parents that are currently deployed. We have students who have traveled around the world and some who have never left this city. All economic levels are represented, as well as students with English as their second language. My class is a diverse class of enthusiastic learners who love learning about the world around them!
My Project
Time for Kids and Weekly Reader are amazing reading materials for young children. The magazines expose children to current events in a way that is age appropriate for third graders to understand and comprehend. The magazine is beautifully illustrated and keeps student's attention. My students have a thirst for knowledge and Time for Kids and Weekly Reader are the perfect way to expose them (and their parents) to different topics that are timely and will spark their interest in learning more!
The Time for Kids subscription comes with an Around the World supplement that showcases facts and relevant information about different countries around the world. Last year (thanks to Donors like you) my students "visited" Japan, Kenya, Egypt, and Italy. Weekly Reader comes with a Science Spin magazine. This magazine is amazing and has pertinent information, in a grade level format, on science topics such as alternate energies, science research, and the latest in keeping our world green.
I would absolutely love to have a subscription to Time for Kids and Weekly Reader for my students.
