Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Motivated, committed, and eager to learn, these are the perfect words to describe my 2nd grade class! My students are a conscientious group of boys and girls that take pride in their academics.
Positive character building and developing a school culture where learning is both exciting and challenging is our goal.
Some of my students face a variety of challenges: poverty, difficult home lives, learning disabilities, lack of resources at home, and many other tough situations that can often get them discouraged, but at our school we provide a safety net of interventions and opportunities for emotional and academic support to ensure that all students' needs are met.
My 2nd graders are a happy group of kids who come to school everyday with great attitudes and big smiles. I love their energy. They motivate me to be the best teacher I can be.
My Project
This magazine is an amazing resource for all students to access. It allows students to have a kid friendly version of serious debates and issues that our nation and worldwide nations are dealing with. My students with special needs appreciate the discussion that TFK opens up and they can verbally share their ideas and thoughts and build confidence in their classroom speaking skills. The oral discussion with each magazine will allow those with special needs to engage and share with the class. It levels the playing field for everyone. Students will get to both listen to and read about different perspectives and this will allow them to form their own awareness and opinions about issues they may not have ever heard of. TFK allows students to realize they are part of a big world. Students can also get a glimpse in how other children around the world, their age, spend their days and how education is both similar and different to what they are experiencing. TFK helps build global awareness, empathy, and strong skills with non fiction text.
