My Students

My students attend a low-income, ethnically diverse school. Many students qualify for free lunch and breakfast. Our school library is lacking an adequate selection of grade-appropriate non-fiction texts for our students.

One of the greatest challenges that I face as a teacher is getting students motivated and engaged in reading.

I am always challenged to find quality nonfiction informational texts for our students to read.

My students would greatly benefit from subscriptions to TIME for Kids so they can boost their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and analytical skills while learning about their world around them.

My Project

TIME for Kids magazine will enable us to move beyond the textbook, bringing authentic texts about current science and social studies into our classrooms. TIME for Kids articles will serve as a strong launch point for a new unit or topic of study, helping students explore what and why before diving deeply into the content for each unit.

TIME for Kids is an excellent resource that will engage students in current events while incorporating important ELA content standards.

Because it delivers 100% informational texts, it provides the content necessary for informational reading. The resources will also provide support in developing students’ writing, speaking and listening, and key language standards.

This project will make a difference for the students as they will connect with the past and present in texts that are at grade level. This text has embedded questions and assessments for the students so we can ensure reading comprehension.
