Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title 1 school where 90% of families fall in between the federal poverty guidelines.
This means parents are not always able to help fund projects and the school cannot always allocate funding. My students, like all students, are deserving of wonderful experiences and academic tools to grow. Thank you for any contribution that you are willing to donate. The difference it makes in the lives of my students is extraordinary!
Thank you,
Ms. Munsey
My Project
Students will often come to me and ask questions about their world. Kids at any age are curious about the world around them and want to talk with their peers about it. By donating to provide the Time Magazine kids edition in our classroom you will be assisting students to have meaningful conversations, debates and written reports on issues and topics that are currently happening.
"Time for Kids" is a weekly magazine that covers a wide range of real-world topics using nonfiction text and themes kids love to learn about, while building non-fiction literacy skills and helping students better understand their world.
In the classroom students will utilize this resource during our reading rotations. While working in small groups students will read articles and go through the writing process to plan, edit, revise and publish opinions and findings of the various articles each week.
I had the joy of using "Time For Kids" in previous schools and I cannot tell you how excited students get when a box arrives. Everyone wants to open them right away and preview the articles. This type of enthusiasm is what we as teachers strive for. So please help me spread the love of nonfiction reading to my students.
