My students need to be able to talk about current events and how they affect our lives. Time for Kids is a valuable resource that helps build kids' awareness of the world around them.
My students come to the classroom every day with a smile on their face, ready to learn. In our classroom, students choose ways to enhance their learning experience and create a shared responsibility for their educational outcome. Working together, we decide how we want to learn. We grow together personally and academically. I love learning with them every day. We strive for progress and not perfection. We know that when we make mistakes we are learning. In our class, we don't do easy. We make easy happen through hard work and learning.
My Project
Articles are written in a simple, direct, and unbiased voice, and the colorful presentation makes it fun for kids to learn about everything from the latest political crisis to the most recent Hollywood blockbuster. This is a valuable resource that helps build kids' awareness of the world around them and could help them develop a social and political consciousness or expand that consciousness, if they've already developed it.
TIME for Kids has an online counterpart magazine that features science, entertainment, and other news articles -- including some written by grade school-age reporters.
Kids can also read mini-sites that center on topics like the 2012 presidential election and women’s history month. A separate Homework Helper section offers facts, articles, and activities like interactive math flashcards; kids can also take a punctuation quiz and get tips on writing essays, news articles, and reports.
In the classroom, we will be able to discuss everything in the news articles. How might they affect you or your family personally? Do you have an opinion regarding the issues you've read about?
