Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ours is a school that provides equal opportunity for all students. This school provides AP curriculum to all students no matter their socioeconomic status, race, etc. It is truly a unique school full of students of all cultural backgrounds and a faculty who is a second family to me.
My students walk into my classroom with genuine interest in Spanish.
They know the benefits of becoming bilingual both academically and professionally, and they work hard to succeed!
My Project
When learning a language, exposure to vocabulary is essential. In my Spanish classes, students use a variety of vocabulary to engage in the language and culture. More specifically, students do activities where they use real-world vocabulary to expand their knowledge. Real-world vocabulary refers to words and phrases that students will encounter when visiting Spanish speaking countries. Conventionally, Spanish-English dictionaries have been used for vocabulary, but they are constricting due to timing and reliability. Students are limited in time to complete activities because it takes awhile to look up words in a Spanish-English dictionary. Likwise, Spanish-English dictionaries become ripped and broken over time. With tablets, students will have access to reliable and legitimate translators such as Wordreference in the classroom. Furthermore, my students will use the tablets to review vocabulary using programs like Duolingo and Kahoot.
