My students need Tiggly to be able to access a fun way to learn phonics with technology (at home too). Tiggly is perfect for the needs of my intervention students. Look them up to see!
I teach in a small k-12 school in a high poverty area. We have a 90% free/reduced lunch rate. This is a rural area and a close knit community. As a whole, basic needs are the focus in this area. Food, clothing and shelter is not always a given, so a lot of attention goes toward that instead of education or learning experiences outside of school. Basic necessities are a struggle. Many of my students do not have the privilege of internet access/technology at home.
These students may have the latest video games at home, but I want to provide fun learning opportunities for these students that they may not otherwise be exposed to.
As a reading intervention teacher, the students I service are targeted because they are already falling behind their peers in reading and writing at the beginning of first grade.
There are many ways technology can benefit students, but they aren't always available at home.
I hope to provide these students with technology and manipulatives that is geared specifically toward the reading interventions I am focused on in our daily lessons in school.
My Project
Tiggly is a great way to introduce manipulatives phonemically to apps on our school iPads.
The best part is, they do not need to have access to wifi at home to use the apps.
For example, Tiggly has a safe carrying case that will allow students to take home an iPad and letters to use with the apps. Very excited to try this with my students.
I am hoping this will make a huge difference in helping reach those students that are struggling with phonemic awareness. I love the manipulatives (interactive letters) that work with the apps. This will target the specific phonemes they are struggling with.
